The 48 teams were divided in 3 baskets to form the 16 groups during the draw of May, 13 in Prague

The 48 clubs partecipants in next Champions Hockey League were organized in three big groups of 16 teams each, according to the classification of the country in which they playing and to their performance in the play-offs. Thus the ranking is determined by following criteria:
  1. The champions of Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Austria and Germany
  2. The regular-season winners of same six countries. If national champion and regular season winner are the same team, the second-placed team enters in this group
  3. All the other teams with the 10 teams that received a wild-card ranked from 39 to 48

The 16 groups drawn will be formed with one team from each pot, the top two teams from each group of three teams will qualify for the knockout stages, which will be played on home/away system with the exception of the final. The group phase will last from 20 August to 6 September. The final will take place on 9 February.
