The game between Russia and Slovakia was closer than expected.
The World Juniors game between Russia and Slovakia was tied at 1 after two periods. Mikhail Naumenko and Nikita Kucherov scored in the third to secure the Russian win.
Slovakia's goalie Juraj Simboch played well and made 37 saves.
"Our goalie was very good, but we just couldn't score when we had the chance," Milos Bubela said to iihf.com.
"We attacked better than we did against Switzerland, but we still need to
capitalize on our chances," Igor Ozhiganov who scored a second period equalizer said to iihf.com. "We need to score more."
Russia has now scored 6 goals in two games.
Slovakia took the lead in the final minute of the first period when Milos Bubela beat Andrei Makarov in the Russian net. The other Russian goalie, Andrei Vasilevski, earned a shut-out in the first game but Makarov was still given the chance - and took it.
For Russia remain games against Latvia and Sweden in the Preliminary Round. Slovakia still has to play Sweden and Switzerland.
The winner of the group qualifies for the semi finals while team 2 and 3 get to play quarter finals.
