Host team Gyergyói HK secures semifinal spot with perfect record
The 2025 Continental Cup’s Group B stage delivered thrilling highs and crushing lows, but it was the hosts Gyergyói HK who stole the spotlight. Over three days of intense action at the brand-new Remetea Arena, the Romanian side powered through the competition, securing a perfect record and an emphatic spot in the semifinals.
Gyergyói HK wasted no time asserting themselves. The hosts demolished Crvena Zvezda 13-0, then followed up with an 11-0 rout of Ukraine’s HK Kremenchuk in a match that left no doubts about their superiority. Kremenchuk, while strong in earlier games—including a 12-0 win over Crvena Zvezda and a hard-fought 3-2 victory against JAHC Budapest—struggled to match the pace and stamina of the Romanians.
Hungarian side JAHC Budapest proved one of the tournament’s disappointments. After narrowly edging Kremenchuk in the opener, they were overpowered 4-1 by Gyergyói HK and could not recover, finishing third in the group. The team is clearly in transition, focusing on rebuilding and developing local talent for future competitions.
The “final” of Group B on Sunday evening turned into a showcase of Gyergyói HK’s offensive firepower. Early goals from Dallas Gerads, Peter Vincze, and Matias Haaranen set the tone, and the hosts maintained relentless pressure throughout the game. Kremenchuk, unable to keep up physically, ultimately suffered an 11-0 defeat—their heaviest in recent Continental Cup history.
With this commanding victory, Gyergyói HK advances to the Continental Cup semifinals, joining Angers, Mogo Riga, and Cortina. The next stage, held in Angers, France, next November promises intense battles. Gyergyói HK, riding high on momentum, will be one of the teams to watch.
