The Board of Directors of Ice Hockey SM-liiga Oy has decided to put the league on hold from 3 December to 19 December 2020 due to the current coronavirus situation.
The coronavirus situation in Finland has deteriorated in recent weeks. The regional authorities have issued stricter restrictions this week to prevent the spread of the virus. Due to the public restrictions granted, the Board of Directors of Ice Hockey SM-liiga Oy decided today to put the league on hold from 3 December to 19 December 2020.
"During the autumn, we have worked hard to ensure the safety of the public, players and employees at match events and have done well in that work. Now, however, the virus situation has changed for the worse in many areas, so the restrictions are understandable. However, it is not financially possible for us to play without an audience," says Heikki Hiltunen, Chairman of the Board of the League.
All matches marked for the above time period will be postponed to a later date. The league and teams will announce the new match dates for the postponed matches later. If the current restrictions are lifted earlier or extended, the League will immediately inform you of any consequences.
