Host nation Russia to start against Czech Republic on 6 May. Sweden vs Latvia and Canada vs USA will face each other for the tournament opener earlier the same day.
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has published the schedule for the 2016 IIHF World Championship in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
The action will begin on Friday, 6 May 2016 at 16.15 local time with European group A rivals Sweden and Latvia and the North American classic between USA and Canada in group B. At 20.15 local time tournament hosts Russia will enter the action in group A with their first game against Czech Republic while Finland plays Belarus the same time.
The group stage will take place from 6 to 17 May with games of group A being played in Moscow Ice Palace which has a capacity of 12,000 seats while the games of group B will be played in Yubileiny Arena in St. Petersburg which has a capacity of 7,000 seats.
The knock out stage begins on Thursday, May 19 with the quarterfinals while the semifinals will be played on Saturday, May 21.
Mark Sunday, May 22 in your calendar as both the bronze and the gold medal games will be played this day.
Both the semifinals and the medal games will be held in Moscow Ice Palace only while 2 of the 4 semifinals are held in St. Petersburg.
