Nürnberg and Straubing both gained the lead in their best-of-three series of the pre-playoffs. The winners face top teams Mannheim and Cologne in the quarterfinals.

Nürnberg Ice Tigers (7) - Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg (10) 3-2
In front of 4,078 spectators home side Nürnberg had more trouble than expected with the underdogs from Wolfsburg. Both teams showed great playoff hockey with the better end for the Bavarians. Steven Rupprich and Evan Kaufmann opened the score for the hosts before Greg Moore and Benedikt Kohl answered for the guests from Lower Saxony. At 54:22 Robert Leask scored the game winner thugh for the Ice Tigers.
Nürnberg lead 1-0 in the series
Augsburger Panther (8) - Straubing Tigers (9) 2-3 OT
A total of 5,233 fans came to see the Bavarian derby between Augsburg and Straubing. The guests went in front already at 05:35 René Kramer used their first power play. Within less than three minutes Derek Whitmore and Steffen Tölzer turned around the result completely for Augsburg at the start of the second period before Karl Stewart scored the equalizer at 46:26 to extend the game to overtime. This one was ended late by Michael Endraß who scored the game winner for Straubing at 79:29.
