The Czechs wins the first EHT tournament of the season after three straight wins
Czech Republic won all three games in the Karjala Tournament in Helsinki, Finland. After starting with a 3-1 win against Sweden (played in Sweden), they followed up by beating Finland after shootout and then blanking Russia 3-0. The 2-0 goal by Lukas Sedlak was questionable and was allowed after seven minutes of video review even if it seemed that it was not possible to see that puck actually had crossed the line.
Hosts Finland was also undefeated after regular time but the shootout loss was enough to miss out on the title. Russia came with an unexperienced roster and finished third after a shootout win against Sweden.
Sweden's new head coach Johan Garpenlöv had a difficult start on his position with three straight losses.
