Sweden and Czechia win again
In the U20 tournament in Zug, Sweden and Czechia followed up yesterdays wins with new ones. Czechia beat Slovakia 3-1 in the early game before Sweden defeated the host, Switzerland, 6-2.
Slovakia - Czechia 1-3
The Slovak U20 team started strong, maintaining a high tempo and matching Czechia's play in the first period. Slovakia took the lead with a power-play goal from Róbert Fedor, assisted by Lukáš Klečka and Jakub Chromiak. Fedor capitalized on a rebound in front of the Czech goal to make it 1-0 for Slovakia.
Czechia dominated after the first intermission and equalized with a goal from Radek Janata, assisted by Marek Ročák and Adam Jecho. The goal came from a two-on-one breakaway, with Janata beating the Slovak goalie, Samuel Urban, to make it 1-1.Czechia quickly turned the game around with a goal from Vojtěch Husinecký, assisted by Dominik Petr. After a chaotic situation in front of the Slovak net, Husinecký found the puck and fired it home, giving Czechia a 2-1 lead.Czechia extended their lead to 3-1 with a goal from Eduard Šalé, assisted by Marek Ročák. Šalé skillfully maneuvered past the Slovak defense and scored with a backhand shot.
Despite Slovakia's efforts, including pulling the goalie for an extra attacker, they were unable to close the gap, ending the match with a 3-1 loss.
This game marked a challenging start for Slovakia in the Five Nations Tournament in Zug, Switzerland.
Sweden - Switzerland 6-2
Sweden, coming off a big win against Finland the day before, continued their strong performance with a convincing 6-2 victory over the host nation, Switzerland.
The match didn’t start as expected for Sweden. Just 32 seconds in, Switzerland shocked them by opening the scoring through Janis Embacher, who found the back of the net after passes from Nolan Cattin and Robin Nico Antenen. However, Sweden responded quickly. Only a minute and a half later, Karl Annborn equalized with a well-placed shot after a setup from Joel Svensson.
Sweden then took the lead in the 11th minute when Oskar Vuollet scored, assisted by Noel Fransén. Despite the early setback, Sweden took control of the game and dominated the play from that point onward.
In the second period, Sweden extended their lead to 3-1 with a power-play goal from Anton Frondell, who was assisted by Kalle Carlsson and Karl Annborn. Sweden's momentum continued as Arvid Westlin scored another power-play goal before the period ended, this time with assists from Valter Lindberg and Viggo Nordlund.
The third period saw Sweden further asserting their dominance. Kalle Carlsson scored a shorthanded goal to make it 5-1. Although Switzerland managed to pull one back with a goal from Aris Häfliger, assisted by Paul Mottard, Sweden sealed their victory with a final goal from Arvid Westlin, his second of the game, with another assist from Joel Svensson.
This comprehensive 6-2 win marked Sweden's second consecutive victory in the tournament, setting the stage for their next matchup against undefeated Czechia with confidence and momentum on their side.
