– "It is a tremendous honor, and it feels surreal to hear 'Sweden's best hockey player.' It's incredibly prestigious, especially when you look at those who have won the award before," says Gustav Forsling to Swehockey.
In just two years, he has gone from being a relatively unknown player to a star in the NHL. Gustav Forsling demonstrated world-class performance during the 2023-24 season when the Florida Panthers won the Stanley Cup.
The 28-year-old Swede was the team's top-scoring defenseman in both the regular season and the playoffs. Gustav Forsling led the entire NHL in plus-minus during the regular season with a +56 rating.
Now he is awarded the Guldpucken as Sweden's best hockey player of the past season.
Guldpucken (The golden puck) is awarded by the newspaper Expressen and the Swedish Ice Hockey Association to the best Swedish player of the season. The Guldpucken has been awarded since 1956.
This year's jury included Expressen's sports editor Linus Sunnervik and the newspaper's hockey reporters Adam Johansson and Gunnar Nordström. The Swedish Ice Hockey Association was represented by chairman Anders Larsson and Secretary-General Christer Plars.
