Belarus beat the home team 9-1 on opening day of the World Juniors Division 1A.
In the 2019-2020 season both Belarus and Latvia were only one point behind Austria who promoted to the elite division of the World U20 Juniors. Last year they didn't get a new chance to move up as the tournament was canceled due to Covid-19. Today, when the tournament started, both played strong games.
Belarus beat the host Denmark 9-1 in Bitcoin Arena in Horsholm. Sergei Kuznetsov scored twice and Alexei Kolosov in the net made 18 saves.
Latvia were outshot 23-27 by Norway but got a 4-2 win after goals by Raivis Ansons, Davis Orninš, Sandis Vilmanis and Daniels Murnieks.
Kazakhstan were relegated from the World Juniors in 2020 after losing the relegation round to Germany. Today they started the way back with a 3-1 win over Hungary.
Tomorrow's games: Kazakhstan-Norway, Belarus-Hungary and Latvia-Denmark.
