The Ticino clubs earn fundamental wins, while Langnau and Biel lose again
Tonight's action from the NLA saw ten of the twelve best teams in Switzerland competing for a top spot in the table, while Zug enjoyed a bye and Davos was busy playing Skelleftea in the CHL quarterfinals.
The ZSC Lions triumphed in Langnau winning 5-1 against an uneffective SCL side, thus widening their advantage on the second-placed EV Zug (now by six points), while Fribourg lost 6-3 against Lausanne and Bern was defeated by Servette 4-2 (also thanks to two goals by Jim Slater).
The Ticino sides both enjoyed fundamental wins: Ambrì-Piotta was successful in Biel winning 6-3 thanks to Alexander Giroux, Adam Hall and Paolo Duca temporarily fixing the game to a brilliant 3-0, with Oliver Kamber, Daniele Grassi and Adrien Lauper further enlarging the advantage despite a somewhat worse second period.
At the Resega ice rink, Lugano was initially in disadvantage thanks to Kloten's Patrick Obrist, but was then relieved by two consecutive goals made by Petterson. The Flyers went again to lead the match early in the second period, with Hollenstein and Guggisberg temporarily putting them to a score of 2-3, but Tony Martensson and Tim Stapleton definitively gave the final victory to the Bianconeri, which now have surpassed Bern and the verty same Kloten in the table and are currently ranked sixth in the league. Stapleton, who played for many seasons in the NHL (especially for the Atlanta Thrashers and the Winnipeg Jets), scored today his first goal for Lugano (as well as his first assist) since his transfer from Biel.
