Slovakia opens with a win

After having suffered a defeat in last year's Final to Russia, Slovakia opens this year's World Championship with a potent win over France.
Slovakia
got off to a perfect start in the 2013 IIHF World Championship. They beat
France with a solid performance and with just enought power they needed to
secure a win. After the 1st period it seemed that France should have been the
one to lead. Brian Henderson and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare both had
opportunities to beat Stana in net and give their team the lead, but Stana was
concentrated between the pipes.
At
9:28 Michel Miklik brought Slovakia up front with a one timer after an assist
by Tomas Zaborsky. Zaborsky added a goal at 28:34 to extend the lead to 3:0,
while three minutes before that Peter Olvecky doubled. Slovakia had more of the
game in the middle period and deservedly had the three-goal lead after 40
minutes.
In
just 2:42 three goals were scored. First Branislav Radivojević and Miroslav
Šatan brought about a five-goal lead, when at 45:32 Damien Raux reduced it to
four again.
Five
minutes later Damien Fleury makes it 5:2. Libor Hudaček seals the deal for the
Slovaks a minute prior to the end to ensure an opening day victory for his
team.
