Canada beats Russia to win Group B of the World Juniors
A game misconduct in the first period cost Russia the win against Canada. The Canadians scored 1-0 and 2-0 on the 5-minute power play. Thanks to the win Canada is qualified for the semi finals while Russia has to play a quarter final.
Russia's Valeri Nichushkin got a 5+20 minutes game misconduct in the middle of the first period and Canada used the advantage perfectly. Dougie Hamilton scored 1-0 at 14:04 and Mark Scheifele 2-0 at 15:58. Russia reduced the Canadian lead with a goal by Nikita Kucherov before the first period was over.
Jonathan Drouin made it 3-1 in the second period and the tournament's top scorer Ryan Nugent-Hopkins got his third assist of the night.
Russia pulled their goalie Andrei Makarov the final minute and Jonathan Huberdeau could kill all Russian hope with a 4-1 goal.
