Due the impossibility of crossing the border with Russia, SaryArka, Nomad and Torpedo will play only in the domestic league
The next Kazakh League will be one of the most competitive of the last seasons with the forced comeback of the three best teams, that have played in Russian VHL in recent seasons. Due to the persistent closure of the border between Kazakhstan and Russia, teams will not be able to travel outside and return to the homeland.
Thus Saryarka Karaganda, Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk and Nomad Nur-Sultan are leaving the VHL and will play the next season in the Kazakhstan League according to hockey portal Shaiba.kz
According to the source cited by portal, the Ministry of Culture and Sports has set a condition for the three clubs: either they play in the VHL, but must move to Russia, or they stay and participate in the championship of Kazakhstan.
The hockey players were given one day to think, during which they must decide whether to remain with their teams or continue their careers in other clubs.
Saryarka partecipates in the VHL from 2012-2013 and won the League twice, in 2013-2014 and 2018-2019, Torpedo, one of the founders of VHL in 2010, was runner-up in 2016-2017. Nomad joined the league in the last season, not completed due to the Covid-19 outbreak
