Serbian hockey crowned its champion in one game
The Serbian championship was assigned with just a single game played.
The bizarre event happened because at the moment only two professional teams are active in the country: Crvena Zvezda Belgrade and Vojvodina Novi Sad, both playing in the multi-national IHL, including Slovenian and Croat teams, currently cancelled after the regular season. The championship is decided in a series at the best of the two games. Crvena won the first one in Novi Sad 3-0 in a game played behind closed doors. Vojvodina refused to play game 2 in Belgrade due the Covid-19 emergency, so Federation awarded a 5-0 victory for Crvena and the team was proclaimed Serbian champion for the third consecutive time, the eighth total, counting the five won when the league including also Montenegro.
"It feels great.I'm sorry that the game was not played, with only one victory in the finals we became champions, now we finally have more titles than Vojvodina. I'm even more sorry that we had to celebrate without the audience because of the situation. We are continuing our trainings on our commitments to the national team and we hope that the situation will stabilize and that the World Championship in Poland will not be canceled" said Crvena and Serbia national team forward Mateja Popovic.
