Dynamo Moscow score 1000th KHL goal

Dynamo Moscow have reached the 1000 goal plateau in the KHL.

Marek Kvapil scored the landmark goal in Dynamo’s game against Atlant but it wasn’t the prettiest goal as it took a big deflection off an Atlant defender to beat Sergei Borisov and find the back of the net.

But he, nor the team, will mind as it also proved to the game-winning goal as Dynamo picked up a 3-2 win.

Dynamo sit second in the Western Conference standings on 22 points but trail SKA by five points as the Saint Petersburg based club continue to dominate the early stages of the KHL season.

Ak Bars are the leaders in the East as they have a two point edge over Barys. Ak Bars have 23 points with Barys sitting on 21, although Barys have played two less games.

It’s no coicedence that the two highest scoring teams are right at the top of the standings. SKA have scored a league high 47 goals, while Barys have found the back of the net 46 times. By contrast, Ak Bars have only scored 26 goals, as they have relied on great goaltending above all else.

Maxim Pestushko of Dynamo and SKA’s Roman Cervenka are tied for the league lead in points as they each have 15 in 11 games played, while Pestushko leads the league with eight goals scored.

Konstantin Barulin leads the KHL in save percentage as the Ak Bars goaltender has 95.7 save percentage and a 1.36 GAA. He has also posted back-to-back shutouts.

Gregory Gelashvili of Torpedo is the leader in GAA as he has a 1.16 while recording three shutouts already this season.
