Game recap

Coventry Blaze started their season with an away win in Sheffield.

Robert Dowd opened the scoring on the breakaway at 3:28, but Coventry were level just over four minutes later as David Broll's shot from the face-off circle went through Pavel Kantor. The Steelers were back ahead at 11:57, a nice move from Anthony DeLuca as he managed to squeeze the puck in from a tight angle. That was how the scores stayed going into the first break, but 5:08 into period two Coventry were back level - Justin Hamonic finishing with a wrist-shot a delayed penalty.

Again the Steelers took the lead though, this time only 43 seconds later with Brendan Connolly tipping out in front, before Connolly was on hand again to make it 4-2 at 27:25.

Coventry's fight-back began at 28:17 through Janne Laakkonen, and they tied the game in the final period at at 49:32 as David Broll set Andrew Johnston free through the centre to finish with a nike deke. With 52:07 on the board, Charles Corcoran poked a loose puck home from close range to give Coventry the lead, while Drew Schiestel secured the win with an empty-netter from his own zone with 10 seconds to play.
