The young Kazakh team takes the first points from Cardiff in the Continental semi-finals in Grenoble
Nomad Astana earns the first points in the Continental Cup semi-final group that opened today in Grenoble, beating the Welsh Cardiff Devils, as always followed by a good number of fans. Despite presenting a very young team, the Nomad, farm team of Barys Astana of the KHL, has demonstrated on the ice that it has technique, speed and good stamina. Cardiff didn't play badly but, after a first period in which the Devils led the game, in the middle of the half the Kazakhs found the advantage after two minutes with captain Oleg Boiko, doubling the lead 10 minutes later with Ruslan Ospanov. Cardiff, encouraged by the fans, besieged Nikita Boyarkin's goal, which was decisive on several occasions. Before the siren, Ruslan Ospanov himself assisted the third goal for Maxim Musorov and Cole Ully on power play struck Boyarkin with a one-timer from short range. In the third period, Cardiff was no longer able to maintain control of the game, allowing the Nomad to take a 5-2 lead with a personal action by Dias Gusseinov and a power play goal by Nikita Kolobov. 4 minutes from time it was Evan Mosey who revived the Devils' hopes by putting the third Welsh goal behind Boyarkin
