Mustangs captures AIHL title

Melbourne Mustangs were crowned for the first time AIHL champion after defeating 6-1 fellow citizen and three-time champion Melbourne Ice in Goodall Cup final at Melbourne Ice House in front of 2.000 spectators. As regular season champion, Mustangs won also the Newman Reid Trophy. Mustangs Swedish forward Victor Gibbs Sjodin was named Finals MVP after an amazing performance: in two games he scored 8 points (5+3) including an hattrick in the final. In the semifinals Mustangs defeated 6-4 reigning champion Sydney Ice Dogs, while Melbourne Ice trashed 6-1 CBR Brave, the team born on the ashes of defunct Canberra Knights, reaching Goodall Cup finals for the fourth time in last 5 years.

Petri Pitkänen (CBR Brave) - Best Goaltender

Jack Wolgemuth (Mustangs) - Best Defenceman

Simon Barg (Sydney Ice Dogs) - Best Forward and Most Value Player of the Season

Viktor Gibbs Sjödin (Mustangs) - Most Valuable Player of the Finals

Jeremy Brown (Melbourne Ice) - Best Rookie

David Dunwoodie (Sydney Ice Dogs) - Australian Player of The Year
