The Dundee Stars continued to buck the trend with yet another win this year, continuing their perfect start to the year.
After upsetting last years champions, the Nottingham Panthers in a huge 5 - 2 win, the Stars returned home to face the Sheffield Steelers who were coming off a huge 10 - 3 win over the Edinburgh Capitals the previous night.
The Stars got the home crowd pumped with the first goal of the game, coming from Brock McPherson on the powerplay at 7.10 as Stefan Meyer sat in the box on a slashing call.
The Steelers responded through Maxime Lacroix netting his fourth of the year at 12.08 but Dundee took the lead through Mike Wirll to give the Stars a 2 - 1 lead after 20 minutes.
After assisting the Stars first two goals, Billy Bagron scored his third point of the night, while McPherson and Wirll also assisted to make it a three point night for them as Dundee stretched their lead to two just five minutes into the second period.
Nico Sanchetti joined in the scoring with a powerplay goal at 33.38 giving Dundee a 4 - 1 lead after 40 minutes of play, giving the Steelers a lot of work to do with time ticking away.
Sheffield knew what they had to do, and it only took 73 seconds for Rylan Galiardi to pull a goal back to make it 4 - 2 with plenty of time left.
The Stars came under some pressure in the third period, giving the Steelers 18 shots on goal but Dan Bakala turned away a lot of them, giving up just one more as Stefan Meyer made it a 4 - 3 game but that's as close as the Steelers got.
Despite getting twice as many shots as Dundee, as Sheffield outshot their opponents 44 - 22, they trailed at the final buzzer as the Stars made it another win with a 4 - 3 scoreline.
