Sweden's Alexander Edler will miss the semi final and the final or bronze medal game after his kneeing on Erik Staal in the quarter final. He might also be suspended the three first game of the 2014 Olympics.
Alexander Edler has been suspended for the last two games of the tournament following his kneeing on Canada's Erik Staal in the quarter finals. Now reports says that Edler is expected to be suspended at least three games more.
The Disciplinary Panel has determined that Edler should have been penalized with a match penalty as he was in clear violation of the playing rule 536b (Kneeing).
Any further suspension will be decided by the IIHF Disciplinary Committee but the Disciplinary Panel of the World Championship has recommended a suspension of three more games which would be the three first games of next year's Olympics.
"We think it's a very hard punishment", Sweden's manager Tommy Boustedt says to Aftonbladet. In last year's tournament Canada's Ryan Getzlaf was only suspended one game for a similar kneeing that seemed more deliberate than Edler's.
