Team Germany came close to winning for a third time in a row in the game against Slovakia. Two late goals by Tomas Zaborsky ensured Slovaks a 3-2 victory and a good path to quarterfinals.
Germans opened the game in a very active way, pushed forward and checked Slovak defenders high up the rink which caused problems for Vladimir Vujtek´s side. Rob Zepp in a German net had more or less nothing to do early in the game as his teammates took the game to the opposing end and Michael Wolf scored at 4:01 thanks to a deflection of a high-flying puck. Video review confirmed the goal and a 1-0 lead for Team Germany.
Slovaks opened the second period in a more active fashion. Mario Bliznak took advantage of a loose puck in front of German´s net and poked home a rebound to tie the score. The game was very even for the remaining time until the second intermission.
Goals came early in the final period. Marcus Kink went forward down the right and squeezed his backhand shot in between Stana´s body and his arm. German lead did not last long, though, as Tomas Zaborsky fired home a close range shot after a nice pass by Kukumberg.
And Tomas Zaborsky came to action once again with 7 minutes to go as he charged on the German net and eventually got the puck into the net. Germany pushed for an equalizer and had a great chance in the dying seconds of the game but left post stopped the puck and granted Slovakia a close victory.
