Two leagues finished this weekend. Energjia Elektrenai dominated season in Lithuania, Viiking Sport capture first ever title in Estonia
Lithuanian League experienced for the first time a final four playoffs format, with the teams facing at Elektrenai Arena in last weekend. Regular season dominator Energjia Elektrenai easily win 7-1 the first semifinal against Vanvita Vilnius, while Russian team Delovaja Rus from Kaliningrad beats 5-2 LRK Kėdainiai, so the two best teams during regular season faced again in the final in front of 1800 spectators. Delovaja opens the score with playing-coach Anatoli Filatov but Energjia, with undoubtely a better roster, manages to comeback, equalizing 40 seconds after with Algimantas Visockas and scoring two unanswered goals in last period with Andrius Židkovas and star Aivaras Bendžius for the final 3-1. At minute 34 in the second period, Russian team decided to abandon rink complaining a major penalty called against Vitali Alexejev. After some minutes Russians decide to come back on ice.
Vanvita Vilnius, finished last in the regular season, surprisingly takes the bronze winning 5-3 LRK Kėdainiai
"It was a thrilling final! - said Energija coach Sergejus Krumkačius - We had chances to close the game already in the the beginning and easily win, but errors and players' injuries prevented tihs, but I'm very happy for the victory. Next year we plan to take part in the championship of a neighboring country (probably Latvia), but it's too early to talk about it"
Energija forward Šarūnas Kuliešius was named Final Four MVP, while teammate Dovydas Kulevicius was the League Top Scorer with 32 points (6+26)
Viiking Sport Tallinn capture Estonian League for the first time since club estabilishment in 2011 beating former champion Kalev-Valk Tartu 4-3 in playoffs game #4, closing the series 3-1. Tartu Mayor Urmas Kruuze and Estonian Hockey Federation President Jaan Melder awarded the team. Viiking forward Sergei Ivanov was the League top scorer with 47 points (13+34) in 17 games.
