In front of more than 11,000 spectators regular season winners Mannheim seemed to have everything under controll when they had a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes against 10th placed Wolfsburg through goals by Frank Mauer and Matthias Plachta. Out of the blue though Norm Milley and Robbie Bina tied the match for the underdogs from lower Saxony during the last five minutes of regulation. And even worse for the hosts they allowed a power play goal by Greg Moore at 70:55 who won the game in overtime for Wolfsburg and made the race to catch up perfect for the guests.
