Even if not Russia played a crowd of 6 585 turned up to see this interesting game between the two North American rivals.
Canada took the lead at 7:13 when Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored from the slot assisted by Huberdeau. Canada missed a 3 on 1 attack but still made it 2-0 at 14:44 when Ryan Strome made scored on a pass through the crease by Brett Ritchie. That was Strome's fourth goal so far. The period was quite even but Canada had most of the chances.
In the second period it was more USA, especially during a four minute power play but Malcolm Subban made some big saves for Canada. In total he made 36 saves.
In the third Jacob Trouba finally put Team USA on the scoring board with a power play marker. Then USA had the momentum but lost it when they took some bad penalties. But despite two on five on three situations Canada didn't score the insurance goal and gave USA a last chance to play six on four in the last minute but no more goals were scored and Canada won 2-1.
