Germany also crushed by hosts Russia

The German U20 team stayed chanceless also in the third game of this year's World Junior Championship in Ufa and even with a win in the last match of the group stage they can't avoid relegation round anymore. Russia on the other side still have good chances to directly reach the semifinals as group leaders.

It wasn't really the wished start for Germany, who went into the game against Russia as clear outsiders, when Nikita Kucherov opened the score for the hosts at 01:18 in front of 7,025 spectators in Ufa. Still in the first period Nail Yakupov added the second before he gave an assist to the 3-0 through Daniil Zharkov at 12:38.

In the following 20 minutes the Germans found a bit better into the game after the early shock and kept their goal clean but failed to score themselves. Still Albert Yarullin ended all hopes for at least a point with his power play strike around "half time".

The third period saw an excellent performance by Russian forward Yaroslav Kosov who earned a hat trick to make it 7-0. Andrei Vasilvesky in the Russian net faced 41 shots on goal which he all denied for his first shutout of the tournament.

Germany still has a game left against Slovakia but even a three-point win for them means relegation round. Russia faces Canada in the last group match and if they win they stay group leaders and are qualified for the semifinals.
