Avangard 0–1 OT Metallurg Mg
Metallurg, as Torpedo, didn’t have enough time to rest and begin the 2nd round in 3 days after ending the first where in game 7 they beat Barys. Avangard swept out Amur in 4 games. The game was equal during all 68 minutes. Both goalies made a great job by denying all shots against their net. Everything was decided in overtime that was the 4th straight for Metallurg who played three times against Barys. Alexei Kaigorodov fed up a pass to Sergei Mozyakin who fired to end the game at 67:26. Finnish goalie Ari Ahonen stopped 34 Omsk shots during all game. Metallurg grabbed home ice advantage.

Traktor 3–1 Ak Bars

Traktor won the first game of the series against two time Gagarin Cup winner Ak Bars Kazan. In first period the teams only managed to shoot 11 shots on both nets. At the third minute of the second Yevgeny Skachkov fired at Michael Garnett’s net, the goalie denied that shot, Skachkov took the puck, made a pass to Jarkko Immonen who returned him the puck and Skachkov opened the score. Andrei Popov in the middle of the period tied the game with an accurate low shot. The key moment of the game happened when the most experienced player of both teams Oleg Petrov got the first penalty of the game. Stanislav Chistov redirected a shot from the blue line to give Traktor a 1-goal lead. The goal was counted only after observations of the video-goal referee. With 56 seconds to play Konstantin Panov closed the game with an empty-net goal.
The next games of the series will be played this Friday.
