Game recap

Fife Flyers recovered from conceding a late equaliser to beat Glasgow Clan 3-2 in overtime on Sunday night in Kirkcaldy.

Clan had the only goal of the game through 40 minutes at the Fife Ice Arena. The sides were relatively well-matched in period one which ended goalless, although the visitors thought they'd scored as the clock wound down but the puck crossed the line after the buzzer.

Glasgow's increasing dominance of the second period eventually told with the game's first goal. Mitch Jones let a shot fly from the blueline and through a crowd in front of Shane Owen the puck crept through with the final touch off Mathieu Roy at 29:01.

However, Fife jumped into life having gone a goal down and were deservedly level on a powerplay of their own through Brandon Magee with 35:53 on the board.

The visitors took a pair of minor penalties as period two ticked down and were punished for it 58 seconds into the third - Greg Chase's shot caused a scramble in front of Shane Starrett with Matt Carter putting the puck home to give the Flyers the lead.

Matt Carter had a chance to round things off for the Flyers with 2:30 left to play but couldn't beat Starrett on the 1-on-0. With Starrett pulled after an offensive zone faceoff win, Mathieu Roy saw his shot slip through Shane Owen and trickle into the net to tie things up at 58:20.

Brylon Shmyr hit the crossbar with just under three minutes left in the overtime period and then saw his slapshot go straight into the body of Owen with the best two chances Clan created in the bonus period. The home side won it on an odd-man rush with Greg Chase setting up Jonas Emmerdahl for an excellent finish at the back post to give Fife the extra point.
