Game recap

Guildford got their first win over the season with a home victory over Coventry in the Challenge Cup.

It was a perfect opening period for Paul Dixon's Flames side, playing their first home game of the season. Cam Braes opened the scoring at 9:45, followed by Ben Davies bundling the puck home at 10:54. A John Dunbar wrap-around made it three with 16:37 played, before Luke Ferrera got Coventry on the board at 17:18 for 3-1 after 20 minutes.

Jamie Crooks and Brett Ferguson struck either side of the midway point of the game to put the Flames 5-1 ahead, although Evan Bloodoff was on hand to bring the score back to 5-2 with 34:11 gone. Bloodoff then made things interesting by cutting the deficit back to two with 14 minutes to play, but Josh Waller's empty netter sealed the win for Guildford with 94 seconds left on the clock.
