At this stage of the season a team is usually pulling clear of the pack, but things have changed this season and it appears anyone team can be beaten by the other this year.
Although things were a little skewed with regards to games played Nottingham Panthers led the eleven teams in October by one point after a strong start. They were closely followed by Fife Flyers who impressed last term and a strong run this time out saw them in second place.
Perhaps the most surprising thing at this stage was that one of the arena teams, namely Sheffield Steelers were languishing in tenth place having just eight points from fourteen games.
By the end of November an almost unstoppable run saw Belfast Giants top the league by a clear four points from Fife Flyers. Nottingham Panthers had dropped to third closely followed by Cardiff Devils who appeared to be the team to beat, along with Belfast at this stage.
However, the run of Belfast Giants was to come to a sudden end when they met a resurgent Sheffield Steelers side at the beginning of December.
Belfast Giants held onto their impressive lead and top the table at the moment but they have been hauled back to just one point by a strong Cardiff Devils side, who looked to be early pacesetters but hit a bump in the road in their early quest for the title.
Milton Keynes Lightning prop the league up, as they have all season and at the moment are eight points off a play off place. They are accompanied by Manchester Storm who are only five points better off.
The Sheffield Steelers have climbed to fifth place closely followed (by one point) by the Guildford Flames who are doing very well in only their second season at this level.
At present the league title is finely balanced, possibly the tightest league ever this season.I can't go without showing this video of Sheffield Steelers and Nottingham Panthers when, for the third consecutive time, the Arena was sold out.
