Game recap

Sheffield Steelers 5-3 Nottingham Panthers

Sheffield made it two wins in as many games over rivals Nottingham Panthers as they again came from behind to this time win in regulation.

The Steelers took the lead with 6:45 gone as Evan McGrath beat Garnett for 1-0. Alex Guptill however had the Panthers level just over six minutes later to send the sides in all square after 20 minutes. Alexandre Boldoc’s effort put the Panthers ahead 5:58 into the middle period, but this time the Steelers struck back midway through the period thanks to John Armstrong – the goal coming a few minutes after the Panthers killed a full two minutes playing 3-on-5.

The real drama however was to come in the third period. After Bolduc had a goal disallowed on video review, Guptill put the Panthers in the lead at 50:05 as he turned the puck over and finished from close range. The Panthers led though for just 41 seconds, Josh Pitt on a rebound to tie things up quickly.

A poor giveaway in the neutral zone then set Josh McFadden free towards Garnett, and he rocketed over the Panthers’ goalie’s left shoulder to put the Steelers in the lead at 52:02. McGrath, who opened the scoring, finished things off with 6:37 left in the game on the powerplay to cap another Steelers’ comeback to give them a win over the Panthers.
