West Auckland Admirals take a 1-0 lead in Finals
Whilst the Northern hemisphere is gearing up for a new season, playing pre-season games the season in the South is drawing to a close.
In New Zealand the West Auckland Admirals are looking to break the stranglehold of Southern Stampede on New Zealand ice hockey.
The Sky City Southern Stampede won this seasons regular season title as they finished level on points with the Admirals: they gained top spot by winning more games in regulation time.
In a departure from the usual play off format third placed Dunedin Thunder played West Auckland in the semi final; the Admirals being the victors.
The following week the West Auckland Admirals took on Southern Stampede: Admirals coming out on top after an overtime winner from Kevin Phillips.
So it is all to play for in the final weekend of the season at the Queenstown Arena on the Southern Island.(August 25th/26th)
