The World Ice Hockey Championship U18 continued in German cities Dresden and Crimmittschau with its 2nd day.
In front of more than 3000 spectators the
Germans entered successfully into the U18 World Championship at home. They beat
Switzerland 4-1.
The hero of the game was Tobias Rieder, who opened the game with two goals. It is the 3rd consecutive and final appearance at U18 championship for the rising star. He also participated at the two last WC U20.
The German goalie Marvin Cupper added a marvelous performance and stopped 44 out of 45 pucks. "There was a fantastic atmosphere in the stands. We started very passionately and did not let our opponent to put us under pressure. We were lucky, that the Swiss were not much disciplined today and draw plenty of penalties, but we definitely deserved to win," said the German head coach Jim Se
tters.

Slovaks tried hard, but allowed goals in the first three power-plays of the
US team then United States even scored the 4th goal while shorthanded. That was too much for the young hearts of U18 players from Slovakia. "We had 12 fouls in the game and allowed 6 goals in power-play. Our goalies did not have a good day. We lost the good attitude that we had after the games against our U20 team and the Czech Republic. We started the tournament really bad," said Slovakian coach Jozef Frühauf. "We played very well our power-play, our special teams were a major part and a key factor for our victory," said Ron Rolston, the head coach of Team USA.

Canada led 2-0 after 4 minutes of play against the
Czech Republic. Then the Czech Republic team fought hard to come back, but the Canadiens were simply too good. "We cannot beat a better opponent every day. Canada deserved to win," said a Czech goalie Matej Machovsky. "We worked hard for 60 minutes, there is nothing to comment upon errors to my team," added a head coach of the Czechs Jiri Solc. The goalie Malcolm Subban, a younger brother of Montreal`s defenceman P.K. Subban, stopped all 26 shots. "I was quite nervous. I really wanted to start well my career in the national team," he said. "The first period was fantastic, exactly what we needed," added head coach Mike Williamson.
Norway opened the scoring against
Sweden 1.07 before the end of the 1st period in a power-play, but 8 seconds later Filip Forsberg tied the game and Norwegians collapsed. They lost 2-10, while Mika Zibanejad had 3 goals and 3 assists in the game.
