Five years after last victory, National Cup is back to Gomel

HK Gomel wins its fourth Belarus Cup beating 3-2  in Bobruisk Arena, in front of 5.000 spectators, reigning champion and Cup holder Metallurg Zhlobin. After a flabby first period, that Metallurg coach described in post game conference as: "20 minutes where players simply trampled ice", marked by a lonely goal by Pavel Musienko, the game takes fire in central period. Gomel scored two more goal with Artem Senkevich and Mikhail Stefanovich in the first 08 minutes before the Zhlobin reaction, but two goals in late period by Nikita Komarov and Anton Eliseenko. Last quarter was totally dominated by Zhlobin - 14-2 the total of shoots on goal - but Gomel finds its hero in goalie Sergei Shabanov, stopping all tentative and bringing back Cup in Gomel. In the press conference Gomel coach Andrei Skabelka said: "I will not comment the match, I just want to thank the fans of our team and Zhlobin for the atmosphere they have created today. In such situation is very nice to play. It was nice when I was a player and now as a coach. In such circumstances there is a hockey atmosphere. I want to thank my guys for showing character, for all the work we've done. I'm obviously happy to win the Cup.
Vasili Spiridonov, head coach of Metallurg: "I'm agree with my colleague: the game was a success. There was a lot of emotion and a lot of twists and turns. The first period was for Gomel they outplayed us. I think the second and third periods were for us, but to play with a 0-3 with team as Gomel it's almost impossible. For this we paid the price. I congratulate my colleague on winning the Cup of Belarus and I'm happy for hockey, which gives fans such matches"
