As both EBEL and HC Bolzano confirmed today via press releases, negotiations about a possible league change by the Italian side were long yesterday but in the end Bolzano made a huge step towards EBEL by finally accepting all the financial conditions by the Austrian-based multi-national league. Now the other 11 teams of the league will have to make a vote until Monday but everything looks like EBEL has 12 teams next year. We keep you updated with a long article after the decision.

 
 
 
 

04 Jul 2013, 23:32 | Floods in Halle (Saale) might lead to new arena

The floods in Eastern Germany and Bavaria in June caused high damages in the affected areas. One of the cities with the highest damages is Halle (Saale) whose ice arena was hit badly and has to be demolished and newly build. Costs around 20 mio euo are expected by the city who wants to use money of a relief fund by the government for the project. 3rd tier (Oberliga Ost) team MEC Halle 04 will play in a temporary ice rink during the next two years.

Italian team HC Bolzano wasn't able to deliver financial guarantees until the deadline this morning at 10.00 CET to join EBEL. Still the Austrian based league gave them another chance to give complete information until 16.00 CET of the same day. NHL's Phoenix Coyotes stay in Glendale, Arizona, at least for the near future but have to change their name to Arizona Coyotes as a compromise with the city of Glendale. The Glendale City Council approved a lease agreement with Renaissance Sports & Entertainment (RSE) to run jobing.com arena. The lease agreement is valid for a total of 15 years but RSE who are going to be the new owners of the Coyotes after approval by the NHL - who currently manages the franchise - can end the agreement after five years in the case of losses above 50 mio $ in that period of time.

KAC Klagenfurt of EBEL will play three outdoor games during the 2013/14 season. As the venue they have chosen the stadium in Klagenfurt, but dates are not yet fixed.

Hockey players can visit Russia in 2016 during the World Championship without a visa, "R-Sport" reports. WCH-2016 will take place in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The participants of the World Championship can visit Russia without visa from April 19 to May 22.

The delegation members of sports teams will enter the country and go out of it without a visa on the basis of valid identity documents and Russia recognized it. In addition, all participants of the WCH-2016 must have an accreditation certificate according to a prescribed form.

Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara was named the best player of the year in Slovakia for the 3rd time. He was named the best in 2011/2012 and 2010/2011 too.

The best player was named after the voting of sport journalists and hockey specialists from Slovakia. Zdeno Chara was only one vote ahead of Marian Hossa from Chicago who finished second.

A goalkeeper from the farm-club of Calgary Flames, Barry Brust, will play for the new KHL club KHL "Medveščak".

Brust is 29 years old and he spent most part of his career in AHL. He played for farm clubs of Los Angeles, Minnesota and Calgary. In NHL Brust has played only 11 matches for the Los Angeles Kings, and have an average of 3.70 goals per game there.
