Ben Bowns recorded a 23-shot shutout as Cardiff Devils went top of Challenge Cup Group B in front of a sold-out Vindico Arena on Friday night.

Debutant Brandon Alderson scored with his first shot in a Devils jersey, one-timing a Jamie Arniel pass past Taran Kozun at 4:41. Kobe Roth had the Blaze's besrt chance of the period on a breakaway in the final seconds of the period.

It did not turn out to be good night for former Devils goalie Kozun who was beaten by Riley Brandt, blocking a shot and breaking away on the loose puck to finish 2:17 into period two, and a little over seven minutes later Cody Donaghey blasted a shot pasT Kozun for 3-0.

Trevor Cox tipped a Donaghey shot into the net at 44:31, followed by Tyler Busch finishing off an Arniel feed at 48:29.
