Fife Flyers made it a four-point weekend with a 4-1 road win in Dundee on Sunday night. The victory capped an excellent pair of games for the Flyers, who not only moved off the foot of the table but into a playoff place in the Viaplay Elite League.
Period one ended scoreless but was played at an excellent pace with chances at each end. An out-stretched Anton Svensson pad denied Fife from taking the lead on arguably the best chance of the period.
Dillon Lawrence tipped Christian Hausinger's shot past Svensson to open the scoring with 30:24 played at Dundee Ice Arena, and under two minutes later the former Stars forward was left open in the high slot to score on the powerplay at 32:13.
Dundee had some decent possession at the start of period three but ran into some serious penalty trouble shortly after. Carter Folk, who'd thrown some big hits in period two especially, fought Reece Harsch at 47:10, 17 seconds after which Romans Semjonovs was called for tripping. Philippe Sanche followed him to the box eight seconds later to give the Flyers a 5-on-3. With that almost over, a tired Christopher Lidjsman took a tripping minor to the displeasure of Stars Head Coach Jeff Mason who was given a bench penalty for his troubles.
On their extended 5-on-3, the Flyers' pressure eventually told with nice passing setting up Zack Phillips for the one-timer with 9:26 left to play.
However, any hopes of a Dundee comeback were ended with 68 seconds left when Kamerin Nault scored on the empty net.
