For the 15th time in history Davos won the classic Spengler Cup, played for the 85th time, beating Dinamo Riga in the final.
In front of a sold out 6,500 Vallian Arena Davos took a 2-0 in the first period after goals by Sciaroni and Sykora. Dinamo Riga got a great chance to come back into the game after 18 minutes but Mikelis Redlihs missed the penalty shot.
Instead it was Jamie Lundmark who put Riga on the score board early in the second period. But Pavel Brendl who played for Davos on loan during the Spengler Cup restored a two goal lead for the home team halfway through the game.
Riga made a last effort by pulling the goalie and managed to score 2-3 with 26 secons left to play but it wasn't enough time left for another goal to tie the game.
Davos Sandro Rizzi was very happy and said "This is a success for Swiss ice hockey". Dinamo's Sandis Ozolins was disappointed but already looked forward to playing in the KHL again "Too bad it wasn't enough. Now we have to concentrate on the KHL".
