The day after Hardy Nilsson announced that he will leave Djurgården after this season he coached his team to an important win after penalty shootout
The two teams from Stockholm in Elitserien are both in the bottom of the table and today's game wasn't just a prestigous derby it was a key game in the hunt for a playoff spot.
The game got an intense start in fron of 13,850 spectators in a soldout Ericsson Globe. Daniel Tjärnqvist gave Djurgården the lead already at 1:50 with a hard power play shot but just 57 seconds later Richard Gynge tied the game.
The game continued intense and entertaining but two good goalies in Gustaf Wesslau and Viktor Fasth kept the numbers down until early in the third period when Kyle Klubertanz shot found the net after touching an AIK player. Richard Gynge however tied the game again, his 15th goal of the season, the best goal scorer of the league.
After that no more goals were scored and the game was decided in a penalty shootout. Mario Kempe got the important game winner for Djurgården in the fifth round.
The victory took Djurgården to seventh place, one point ahead of AIK in ninth place.
The only other game played in Elitserien this week was Linköping-Brynäs 3-1 on Tuesday. An important win for Linköping after showing bad form lately.
