The Edmonton Oilers selected Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Red Deer (WHL) first overall. The first European player to be selected was Sweden's Gabriel Landeskog, who was picked second by the Colorado Avalanche.

 
 
 
 
The 2011 NHL Entry Draft in Minnesota has started. Tonight the first round was held. Ten of the first 30 players were European. Six from Sweden and one each from Switzerland, Finland, Russia and Denmark. Rounds 2 to 7 will take place tomorrow.
