Danish squad for the Olympic qualification
The Danish men's national ice hockey team is gearing up for a crucial Olympic qualification tournament in Aalborg at the end of August.
Following the conclusion of the Summer Olympics in Paris, Denmark will face off against Great Britain, Japan, and Norway from August 29 to September 1, aiming to secure a spot in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Cortina d’Ampezzo and Milan.
Head coach Mikael Gath has assembled a strong squad, with most players currently playing in foreign leagues, including all of Denmark’s NHL stars. The only exceptions are Morten Poulsen (Herning Blue Fox) and Phillip Schultz (Esbjerg Energy) who play in the Danish Metal Liga. The team’s motivation is reportedly high, especially after the inspiration drawn from the recent Summer Olympics.
The national team will gather on August 23 for a brief training camp, which includes two preparatory matches in Riga, Latvia, on August 25 and 26. These games will help the team finalize their lineup and integrate new players into their system.
Only 23 players will make the final roster for the tournament in Aalborg. If Denmark wins this qualification tournament, it will be their second appearance in the Winter Olympics, following their debut in Beijing 2022, where they reached the quarterfinals. The team is determined to win the qualification and embark on another Olympic journey.
