USA scores four last period goals to come from behind and win against Norway 4-2
Filled with self confidence after beating Sweden after penalty shots in the opening game Norway came out strong in the first period and opened the scoring at 8:09 when Ken Andre Olimb scored. Just over one minute later Anders Bastiansen picked up a bad pass and got breakaway and scored 2-0 with a shorthanded goal.
Norway held 2-0 to the end of the first period and also until the end of the second despite USA had 20-5 in shots in the second period. Despite the dominance USA had problems creating very good chances against a Norwegian team that defended very well. Cam Fowler was closest to score for USA when he hit the post with a shot from the right circle.
But the goals came in the third period instead. At 1:16 Nick Palmeieri scored on a beautiful pass by Chris Kreider and less than third minutes later the game was tied when Jack Skille found the net with a shot from edge of the crease.
"In the third we started to move a little better. We were more in sync and we started to create more, said US defenceman Jack Johnson to IIHF.com after the game.
Nick Palmieri scored his second goal of the game with a shot from a close angle on a power play and with 1:26 left to play Craig Smith scored an other power play tally to make the final score 4-2.
Nick Palmieri was given the best player award for USA while Ole-Kristian Tollefsen was given the honours for Norway.
