The outcome of the World Championship Division 1B in Estonia is still wide open after Romania beat Poland in overtime today.
After three days of five at the Tondiraba arena in Estonia Poland and Romania are on top with seven points each. Japan is not far behind with six points. Then follow Estonia four, Ukraine 3 and Netherlands 0.
Netherlands lost big, 1-8, to Ukraine today and only a small miracle can save them from relegation.
Romania took a big win today against top-seeded Poland. Szilard Rokaly scored 1-0 for the Romanians on a 2-man advantage in the first period and they would keep that lead until 51:56 when Polish top scorer Damian Kapica tied it. Anton Butochnov took Romania ahead again at 53:25 but Poland would tie it once again. Krystian Dziubinksi scored 2-2 with 23 seconds to go and an extra Polish skater on the ice. When Romania got a power-play opportunity in the overtime Pavel Borisenko could get the winner for his team.
Japan beat the home side Estonia 5-2 to remain in the battle for the first place. The game was decided in the first period when Japan moved from 1-1 to 4-1 in ten minutes.
