In the second overtime period of the fifth game Yaroslav Kosov scored the goal that gets Metallurg past Salavat Yulayev Ufa.
Metallurg Magnitogorsk | 3-2 OT | Salavat Yulayev Ufa |
Yaroslav Kosov is not known as a great scorer. The former Russian World Juniors player (2012 and 2013) scored only four goals during the regular season but has already reached the same number in 16 playoff games. Today’s winning goal at 81:37 was a beauty. Bogdan Potekhin, with his back towards the net passed the puck between the legs to Kosov who was all alone at the right post and easily backhanded it home past Salavat’s goalie Niklas Svedberg.
After a first period with no goals Salavat scored twice early in the second to get the upper hand. But Metallurg wanted to close the series today before the home fans and so they did. Danis Zaripov got Metallurg’s first goal with a powerplay goal from between the circles. The equalizer was also scored on a man advantage. After a nice combination with Alexander Syomin and Tomas Filippi, Alexei Bereglazov put it home from the right circle.
Metallurg Magnitogorsk won the series 4-1 (3-2OT, 6-1, 2-3, 3-1, 3-2OT) and will now play CSKA Moscow in the Gagarin Cup finals. The first game will take place next Thursday (April 7).
