EIHL update (27/28th February)
With just a month to go of the regular EIHL season it looks as though the title and play off places could very well be decided by the final games.
It seems to be between the Sheffield Steelers and the Cardiff Devils for the title with Manchester Storm fighting it out with
Coventry Blaze for the final play off spot.
However, if Belfast Giants were to obtain maximum points
from their upcoming three games with Cardiff
they could - potentially- take over first place.
Nottingham Panthers look to have missed out on the title
after being defeated by Braehead Clan over the weekend.
All eyes will be on Cardiff
when they take on the Giants on the 12th March in their new stadium:
the new 3,000 seat arena in the Cardiff
Bay area of the city.
How the transition from there ‘temporary’ home (for 10 years)
will affect them, if at all, remains to be seen.
On Saturday Sheffield came back from
a challenge cup defeat to beat Dundee Stars 7-0. The last game ever for Cardiff
in the affectionately termed Big Blue Tent saw them defeated by a Coventry
side desperate for play off points. Coventry
maintained this run by defeating Sheffield the night
after.
Fife Flyers, Gardiner Conference leaders, cemented their
place with a four point weekend at the hands of Braehead Clan and Edinburgh Capitals.
The only club not mentioned are the Manchester Storm who kept up pressure on Coventry with a four point weekend, and in the Sunday game the forward trio of Sisca,Scarsella and Salazar were too much for a shell shocked Dundee side.
