Despite the interest for the proposal, majority of clubs voted against
Extraliga will remain closed and "genuinely" Slovakian in 2013-2014 season. This was the decision taken by the clubs by a majority during a meeting held in Martin this week, rejecting the proposal to join the top Slovakian competition showed by several Polish clubs.
"In next year the league will play with ten of our teams. The majority gave negative opinion on Polish teams application for the season 2013/2014" said Sport Director of Pro-Hockey Vladimir Paštinského. According to Paštinského clubs promised to review the decsion next season.
Also the President of the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation (SZLH) Igor Nemecek confirmed that Polish teams will have the chance to join Extraliga. "But not next year, but in the next one. I heard rumors that also teams from Ukraine have interest, as well as from EBEL league. But I believe that these two options are unrealistic. The idea to have the Polish teams in our top competition was much more than possible " said Nemeček .
