Krefeld solved the difficult away task against Berlin with a win in overtime. The Penguins earned their third consecutive win on the road despite an early two-goal deficit. Tyson Mulock and Barry Tallackson had opeend the score for Berlin in the first 20 minutes before Tomas Kurka, Francois Methot and Adam Courchaine answered for the guests from Krefeld. The day was not completely useless for Berlin as André Rankel extended the game to overtime with his late power play strike at 56:38. The extra point though was taken by Krefeld when Boris Blank scored at 64:14. For Krefeld it was their third win in four matches against Berlin this season and in all three occasions they won two points. Both teams now are third with 79 points each.

For Cologne's veteran defenseman Mirko Lüdemann today's match against the Straubing Tigers was a very special one as it was his 1000th (!) in DEL. The result was close until the very end when Alexander Weiß made everything clear for the Sharks with just four seconds left in regulation to make it 5-3. Record man Lüdemann himself could not only celebrate the three points that brought Cologne a big step closer to a first place finish but he also added an assist to the 4-2 whcih was scored by eurohockey.com's "Player of the Month for January" - Felix Schütz.

Despite leading twice in Mannheim against the current vice champions, guests Iserlohn Roosters could not step their negative trend and received their 6th consecutive loss. Brendan Brooks and Brandon Rogers brought Iserlohn in front until the start of the second period but Mannheim answered through Michael Glumac and Marcus Kink for a draw after 40 minutes. Three late goals in the last six minutes by Ronny Arendt, Adam Mitchell and again Marcus Kink gave the more active Mannheim a solid 5-2 win.

The was no tension left in the game between Hamburg Freezers and Düsseldorfer EG quite early. Colin Murphy and Eric Schneider pathed the way for the home team's success with a double within one and a half minutes of the first period. Only short time later James Bettauer used a 5 on 3 power play to make it 3-0 Freezers. When Thomas Dolak added another one for the Northern Germans at 24:05 there was barely any real hope left for away point for the DEG. Although two power play goals by Carl Ridderwall and Bernhard Ebner before the second intermission cut the deficit to the half, the guests found no way back into the match anymore.

In a direct duel for a top-6 playoff spot home side Augsburger Panther had the better end on their side against EHC Red Bull München. TJ Trevelyan in power play and Daryl Boyle brought the hosts in front for the first time in this match at the start of the third period. Before Lubor Dibelka had opened the score for München late in the second. With his strike at 49:49 Sören Sturm extended the game to overtime. This one stayed scoreless before Mario Valery-Trabucco was the only player to score in shootout and give Augsburg the extra point.

Nürnberg Ice Tigers were the team of this weekend. Two days after a huge 7-1 away win against Düsseldorf, they beat this evening playoff competitors Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg 4-0. Ryan Bayda, Yan Stastny, Patrick Reimer and Connor James scored the goals for the Bavarians. Tigers goalie Tyler Weimann stopped all 33 shots he faced. With his shutout he was one of the key players to end the four-game winning streak of the Grizzly Adams.
