Hungary wins the tournament in Tychy after a close win against the hosts. Poland hopeful of a more brightful future of their national team.
This month the European Ice Hockey Challenge (a collection of different four nations tournaments across Europe) came toTychy – a city in southern Poland.
The first day of tournament was predictable. All of teams were very stressed and play wasn’t good enough. As we predicted Hungary take a easy win against Romania and Poland defeat South Korea, not quite easy as Hungary, but Poland managed to win it 3-2 after exciting match.
On the second day, as on first there weren’t any suprises, both Poland and Hungary took easy wins. First Poland defeat Romania with a thrashing 10-0, and Hungary defeated South Korea 6-1.
On the last day there was two exciting games to decide the final standings. Hungary was playing against Poland (both 6 points before this match), and on the bottom of this tournament Romania played against South Korea. Both matches showed us that these teams can play in higher divisions. Poland after years of very bad hockey have started to return old fame with new coaches Viacheslav Bykov and Igor Zacharkin. Poland lost against Hungary 1-2 but we’ve seen a big progress in their play. Despite the loss it was hopeful match for the Polish supporters. On the bottom of table South Korea proved that they are skillful and they won after a shutout against Romania.
