Only three KHL games were played on Wednesday. While Avangard restored their first place in Eastern Conference, Amur gained a surprise win and Sibir won the top match.

Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk suffered a huge setback to their playoff ambitions when they lost their away game against bottom side Amur Khabarovsk in the shootout. Although Konstantin Glazachev and Marek Troncinsky tied the match for Yugra twice after an Amur lead through Juha-Pekka Hytönen and Topi Jaakola, they were not able to win. After a scoreless overtime, the shootout went over incredible 9 (!) rounds before Jakub Petruzalek transformed the decisive penalty attempt to win the extra point for Amur. After their loss Yugra stays out of the playoff spots in the East. Sibir Novosibirsk received Barys Astana for the top game of Chernyshyov Division today. Roman Starchenko brought the guests from Kazakhstan in front at 06:17 before Alexei Kopeikin scored the equalizer for Sibir at the end of the second period. In the last 20 minutes Sibir used an early power play to turn the game around for the first time through Kristian Kudroc. With six seconds left to play Jori Lehterä made everything clear for the hosts with an empty netter. Thanks to their win today Sibir cut the distance within their division towards second-placed Barys to just two points. In another game of Chernyshyov Division Avangard Omsk reconquered the lead in the Eastern Conference by defeating Metallurg Novokuznetsk. For Metallurg a three-game road trip ended with the full amount of points (9). Although Metallurg had a perfect start with the lead through Alexander Bumagin after only 37 seconds, it took the guests from Omsk only half a minute to answer through Anssi Salmela. In the following minutes Tomas Zaborsky even turned the game around completely in favour of Avangard before Filipp Metlyuk used a power play for the equalizer. At 17:08 Alexander Frolov restored the lead for Avangard though. With a double at the end of the middle period Anton Kuryanov pathed the way for the away win. Kontantin Turukin only was able to make it 3-5 at 53:49.
