DEL weekend recap

02 Dec 2012 | Dennis Mende

Augsburger Panther with six points along with Ingolstadt and Krefeldt who each gained five points are the winners of the weekend. All the big three lost at least once, Berlin even without points.

Adler Mannheim (48 pts) defended their league in the table on Sunday with a solid 6-3 win against the Nürnberg Ice Tigers but on Friday they had to give up two points in Krefeld (2-3 OT). That even earned increased the advantage towards second-placed Kölner Haie (45 pts) to three points as the team from Cologne lost clearly in Munich on Friday (1-4) before they beat Hannover (5-2) today.

Then there comes a group of three teams with 39 points, led by the Hamburg Freezers who won their only weekend match with 5-0 against Iserlohn. Krefeld had five points. Next to the overtime win against league leaders Mannheim they also won 4-1 against München.

The Augsburger Panther not only gained a 3-1 derby win in Straubing but also defeated the current DEL champions Eisbären Berlin 3-2 what positions them just six points behind the second-placed Cologne. Bavarian neighbours ERC Ingolstadt also beat Berlin on Friday (4-2) before they defeated Iserlohn (5-4 OT). They stay just one point behind Augsburg.

Due to a weekend without points DEL record champions Eisbären Berlin (36 pts) fell down to the 7th spot with the same number of points as the 9th. The same amount of points do the Hannover Scorpions have after a 4-2 Lower Saxony derby win against Wolfsburg and a 2-5 loss against Cologne and the Straubing Tigers who after their derby loss against Augsburg, came back with a 2-1 away win against last-placed Wolfsburg.

The Nürnberg Ice Tigers already lost a point against second-last Düsseldorfer EG (4-3 OT) before they lost on Sunday in Mannheim. Still they have five points more than the non-playoff spots as EHC Red Bull München only won against Cologne but lost 1-4 in Krefeld. Iserlohn and Düsseldorf with just one point - the DEG had a game off on Sunday - and the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg on the last spot with two losses couldn't close the gap to the playoff spots.
